PLAYER TO WATCH Isabellah Middleton has had a stellar final collegiate season and first with the Iona University women’s basketball team. The Leesburg, VA native has paced the Maroon & Gold offense in scoring this season. Middleton has also registered a team-high field goal percentage and steals per game on the defensive end. She ranks in the top 10 in the conference in all three categories. Middleton has posted multiple 20-point games and double-double efforts in 2025-26 ranking among the MAAC leaders. In her collegiate career she has eclipsed over 1,300 career points, 600 career rebounds and 175 career steals. Middleton is pursuing her Master of Business Administration from Iona’s LaPenta School of Business. NOTABLE ALUMNI Michelle Fahy ’04, one of Iona Women’s Basketball’s all-time greats, will be inducted into the Basketball Ireland Hall of Fame in May 2026. A four-year Gael, she led the MAAC in scoring with 18.9 points per game as a senior, earning All-MAAC and All-MET First Team honors. Fahy is one of just four players in program history with 1,400+ career points and 700+ rebounds, cementing her legacy in Maroon & Gold. Following Iona, she became a dominant force in Ireland’s Superleague, winning six league titles, five National Cups, and multiple MVP honors with Glanmire and UL. Known as Ireland’s greatest post player, she starred internationally and helped power a 44-game unbeaten run at UL. Admired for her leadership and poise, Fahy now serves as a youth coach for her hometown club Maree, continuing her impact on the game.

This season, she guided Iona to seven non-conference wins, a milestone the program had not reached since 2012–13. In her seventh year as a head coach, Szumilo earned her 100th career victory on Dec. 3 with a win over UMass Lowell. At FDU, Szumilo led the Knights to back-to-back Northeast Conference regular-season championships in 2021–22 and 2022–23, earning consecutive Coach of the Year honors and WNIT appearances. Her 2021–22 squad won 19 conference games for the program’s first league title since 1992–93, while the 2022–23 team set a program record with 22 regular-season wins. Before FDU, Szumilo spent nine years at Fordham as Associate Head Coach, helping the Rams to seven 20-win seasons, two Atlantic 10 titles, NCAA Tournament berths, and four WNIT appearances.
