PLAYER TO WATCH Senior Dejour Reaves has made an impact in his first season with the Gaels as the team's top scorer and a top-five scorer in the MAAC this season. The 6-0 guard and Preseason All-MAAC selection has showed a knack for scoring and also rebounding, with multiple efforts of 10 or more boards this season. He is the only Gael to appear in and start all of Iona's games this season. Reaves has been in the top 100 in the NCAA all season in steals and field goals made. Reaves came to New Rochelle after a season at the University of Northern Colorado where he was All Big Sky Third Team and the league's Sixth Man of the Year in 2023-24 and spent two highly successful seasons at the junior college level. NOTABLE ALUMNI One of the finest all-around players to ever wear the Iona uniform, Jeff Ruland was instrumental in putting the Gaels' basketball program on the national map. In his three seasons at Iona, Ruland was a dominant force, bursting onto the scene to lead the Gaels and the nation's freshmen in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage. The dominance continued as the 6-10 center led the Maroon & Gold to a three-year record of 69-21 (.767) and the Gaels' first two NCAA Tournament appearances. The two-time All-America (1979 and 1980) went on to be a second-round selection (25th overall) in the 1981 NBA draft.
