Located less than a mile from the ocean on the scenic New Jersey coast, Monmouth University is a private, comprehensive institution of higher learning committed to service in the public interest and to the enhancement of the quality of life. The University aims to provide a learning process and environment that enables men and women to pursue their educational goals, realize their full potential, contribute actively to their community, and determine the direction of their lives. Approximately 6,300 students, including 1,700 graduate students, are currently enrolled. They represent 29 states and 30 nations. More than 1900 students live in University housing including twelve on- campus residence halls and two garden apartment complexes. Founded in 1933, the University acquired its core campus, the former Shadow Lawn estate, in 1956, and in the following year initiated its baccalaureate curricula. The University’s 156-acre campus, considered to be one of the most beautiful in New Jersey, includes 56 buildings which blend old and contemporary architectural styles. Among these buildings are

The Great Hall at Shadow Lawn (the centerpiece building), which is a National Historic Landmark, and the Murry and Leonie Guggenheim Mansion, a wing of the Monmouth University Library, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Monmouth University offers 55 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and concentrations in eight distinct schools – the Leon Hess Business School, the Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Education, the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies, the Graduate School, the Honors School, the School of Science, and the School of Social Work. To ensure undergraduate success for students of all skill levels, Monmouth offers integrated advising services through the Center for Student Success (CSS). The center provides a single, convenient location for comprehensive counseling in academic, career, and personal matters.
