PLAYER TO WATCH Graduate student point guard Stella Clark joined the Monmouth women’s basketball program following a four-year career at Northeastern where she finished 21 st in program history on the all-time scoring list with 1,069 career points. The Sea Girt, N.J., native averaged 10.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per tilt in 105 career games with the Huskies. She was a two-time All-CAA performer and wrapped up her career with All- CAA Second Team honors following her senior season. Clark made an immediate impact on the Monmouth program this season and led the Hawks during the non-conference slate in scoring (9.4 ppg) and assists (4.1 apg) while finishing tied for the team lead in rebounding (6.6 rpg). For her career, she has eclipsed 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists. NOTABLE ALUMNI Alysha Womack had a standout four-year career with the Monmouth women’s basketball program from 2009–13. She compiled 1,496 points, 374 rebounds, 211 assists and 145 steals in 110 career games. She ranks fifth on the all-time scoring list at Monmouth, while sitting inside the top-20 in several other statistical categories. Womack led the Hawks in scoring in all four seasons and was a three-time All-NEC Second Team performer after earning NEC All-Rookie Team honors as a freshman. During her four years with the Hawks, Monmouth racked up an overall record of 75-51, while playing to a 48-24 mark in NEC action. As a sophomore in 2010-11, Womack helped the Hawks reach a program-best 23 wins and the first 20-win season in program history since the 1987–88 campaign.

PLAYER TO WATCH George Papas is one of the leading scorers in theMAAC this season, and the top three-point shooter in the conference. A 2021 Second TeamAll-MAAC choice, Papas earned First Teamhonors before the season. Papas has earnedmultiple Player of theWeek honors this year and dropped 30 pointsmultiple times, including a seven-triple performance in awin over Lehigh. Papas is amongMAAC leaders in scoring, three-point shooting, rebounding and assists while also playing amongst themost minutes intheleague. The fifth-year senior has over 115 career games played and has started themajority of contests across his final two seasons. NOTABLE ALUMNI Gary Carter ledMonmouth to one of themost successful runs in the school’s history, with the Hawks reaching a No. 2 Division II ranking in the 1981 season. During his four year career, Monmouth averaged 20wins per season as Carter was named a three-time Big Apple Conference selection. Selected as the team’smost valuable player for three consecutive seasons, he ranks third inMonmouth history with 1,643 points. The business administration major was namedMetro Player of the Year in 1981 and Big Apple Conference Player of the Year in 1983.

HEAD COACH GINNY BOGGESS Ginny Boggess is in her first season at the helm of the Monmouth women’s basketball program after being welcomed as the ninth head coach in program history in April of 2021. A 17-year coaching veteran, Boggess came to West Long Branch after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach and the head recruiting coordinator at Penn State. Prior to her time at State College, Boggess was an assistant coach at Marquette for five seasons where she helped guide the Golden Eagles to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. The program registered a 76-26 record (43-11 in Big East), which included a pair of Big East regular- season championships and a Big East Tournament Championship. Marquette advanced to the NCAA round of 32 in her last two seasons. Boggess also had stops at Columbia, Jacksonville, Hofstra and Kennesaw State during her coaching career.

HEAD COACH KING RICE King Rice has been on the Monmouth sideline for 10 seasons and is in his 11th in 2021–22. He has over 170 victories to his credit, as well as a trio of MAAC Coach of the Year honors and three MAAC regular season titles. He has set Monmouth records for wins in a season with 28 and consecutive victories with 17. Rice also set a MAAC Record in 2016–17 by winning 18 league games for the first time ever. He has also won the John McLendon National Coach of the Year honor, while being named a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award. Rice became the third coach in MAAC history in 2021 to be named the league’s Coach of the Year for a third time. He also won his third regular season crown in the pandemic-impacted season, navigating the Hawks through an adversity-filled campaign to finish atop the MAAC. Three MU seniors were named All-MAAC.
