Fairfield University, founded by the Society of Jesus in 1942, is a coeducational institution of higher learning whose primary objectives are to develop the creative intellectual potential of its students and to foster in them ethical and religious values and a sense of social responsibility. Jesuit education, which began in 1547, is committed today to the service of faith, of which the promotion of justice is an absolute requirement. Located on 200 acres overlooking Long Island Sound, the University has grown from an initial class of 303 undergraduate male students admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences in 1947, into a coeducational university with more than 5,500 undergraduate and graduate students. Along the way, the University has awarded more than 45,000 degrees since 1951, and has developed a reputation for educational excellence both regionally and nationally. Fairfield students benefit from the resources and reputation of a school, which was ranked as the number three school in the Northern Region in 2021 by U.S. News & World Report, with nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of disciplines. The University offers 45 undergraduate majors and a variety of masters and certificate programs in five different schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions, the School of Engineering, and the School of Nursing, now named the Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies.

Students enjoy small class sizes, and one-to-one instruction from their professors; access to first-rate facilities and technology; and may participate in Division I athletics, intramural teams, performance troupes, cultural programs at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts and the Fairfield University Art Museum, and more than 80 clubs and organizations. In addition, service- learning is integral to Fairfield’s mission to form young men and women who will go on to serve the common good, and students partake of a variety of volunteer and community support programs both locally and abroad. A Fairfield University experience includes a dedication to being an integral part of the community in which students live. Collaborations and partnerships with local business owners and elected officials, in addition to maintaining a strong post-graduation residency and economic impact in the state, make Fairfield University students, graduates, and alumni a vital part of the local and state community. Fairfield University graduates have some of the highest starting salaries in the country – and second in the state – with a 98% post-graduation placement rate within six months of graduating. Located just one hour north of New York City, at the center of an academic corridor populated by colleges and universities, cultural and recreational resources, and leading corporate employers. As a relatively youthful institution – the third youngest of the 28 Jesuit universities in the United States – Fairfield is well-positioned to meet the needs of modern students.
