PLAYER TO WATCH Deion Hammond isMonmouth’s leading scorer, and this season broke the programrecord formade three- pointers with his 261 st at Manhattan on Feb. 5. He is the seventh player to reach 1,500 career points for MU at the Division I level, and is one of 10 Hawks to ever start over 100 games in the Blue andWhite. Hammond became the first player in school history this season to attempt over 700 three pointers. One of the top scorers in the conference and in program history, Hammond was a unanimous Preseason All-MAAC First Team selection after being named to the same group following last season. NOTABLE ALUMNI Corey Albanowas a two-time First TeamAll-Northeast Conference selection, scoring 1,599 points in his time at Monmouth. Albano, who is the all-time leading rebounder at MUwith 779 rebounds, finished his career as the fourth all-time leading scorer. The Toms River, N.J. native helped lead the Hawks to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1996, where hewas named the Chevrolet Player of the Game against Marquette. Albanowas the 1996–97MonmouthMale Athlete of the Year after scoring 559 points, the fourth highest single season total inMUDI History.

HEAD COACH KING RICE King Rice has been on the Monmouth sideline for nine seasons and enters his 10 th in 2020–21. He has 149 victories to his credit, as well as a pair of MAAC Coach of the Year honors. He has set Monmouth records for wins in a season with 28 and consecutive victories with 17. Rice also set a MAAC Record in 2016–17 by winning 18 league games for the first time ever. He has also won the JohnMcLendon National Coach of the Year honor, while being named a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award. Rice was named the head men’s basketball coach at Monmouth University on March 30, 2011, and became the fifth head coach in the history of the Monmouth men’s basketball program. A native of Binghamton, N.Y. and a 1992 graduate of North Carolina, Rice had 13 seasons of experience in the collegiate coaching ranks, 10 of which came with current Pittsburgh head coach Kevin Stallings. For the previous five seasons before joining the Hawks, Rice was an assistant coach at Vanderbilt under Stallings, where the Commodores made the NCAA Tournament four of those years out of the Southeastern Conference.
