COMMISSIONER'S CUP

Commissioner’s Cup Fairfield University and Rider University have been announced as the winners of the 2024-25 Richard J. Ensor, Esq. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Commissioner’s Cup, announced by the league office today. This is the second straight academic year that the Fairfield Stags secured the Overall Commissioner’s Cup and the Women’s Commissioner’s Cup, while the Rider Broncs also captured the Men’s Commissioner’s. It marks the first time the same schools have won the same commissioner cups in back-to-back years since Marist swept all three cups in three consecutive years from 2004-05 through 2006-07. “I would like to congratulate the student-athletes, coaches and administrators at Fairfield and Rider for winning the 2024-25 Richard J. Ensor, Esq. Commissioner’s Cup,” said Travis Tellitocci, MAAC Commissioner. “This award recognizes overall athletics excellence in the conference and is a testament to the great success that was achieved over the past season by each school.” Fairfield clinched its second consecutive overall cup and women’s cup in 2024-25. The overall cup for the Stags was the program’s sixth trophy since 1994-95 and the women’s cup for the team was the fourth straight and fifth over the past six seasons dating back to 2019-20. The 2024-25 women’s cup was the program’s 13th – the most among current MAAC member. In total, Fairfield owns 22 MAAC Commissioner’s Cups to date, having also won three men’s cups previously. The 22 total all-time cups rank second in the MAAC to only Marist (30). During the 2024-25 campaign, Fairfield swept MAAC Championships and MAAC Regular Season titles in women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and women’s basketball, while winning MAAC Championships in baseball, men’s golf, women’s lacrosse, and women’s rowing. The Stags also finished

as championship runner-up in women’s tennis and women’s swimming and diving. For sports that require teams to qualify for the MAAC Championship, Fairfield clinched berths in nine total postseasons this season, only missing out on one championship appearance in sports the Stags compete within the MAAC for. Rider was crowned as the men’s champion for the second straight year and just the third time in program history (1997-98). In total, the Broncs have won four MAAC Commissioner’s Cups, additionally winning one overall cup following the 2019-20 season. Rider continued its dynasty in track and field during the 2024-25 stanza, winning its third consecutive MAAC Championships in both indoor and outdoor track and field this season. The Broncs also won a MAAC Regular Season Championships in baseball, the program’s first since 2015. Moreover, Rider had success in numerous men’s MAAC Championships, finishing as the runner-up in cross country, soccer, baseball, and tennis. The Richard J. Ensor, Esq. MAAC Commissioner’s Cup is awarded annually as a symbol of overall excellence in athletics in the 23 championships conducted within the MAAC. Only the scores from Men’s & Women’s Basketball, plus the top six men’s and top six women’s scores are used to determine an institution’s total points. On May 1, 2023, the MAAC Council of Presidents approved the renaming of the MAAC Commissioner’s Cup after retired MAAC Commissioner Richard J. Ensor, Esq., in honor of his legacy and exemplary service to intercollegiate athletics.
