PLAYER TO WATCH Named to the 2021-22 Preseason All-MAAC Second team, graduate guard Kendrea Williams has lived up to the preseason hype. During the Peacocks’ matchup against Canisius on December 19, Williams scored her 2,000 th career point. She was named back-to- back MAAC Player of the Week on December 20 and December 27. She was named to the MET Writers Basketball Association Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on December 21, as well as the NCAA Starting on December 22. The Piscataway, New Jersey native enters the 2022 MAAC Championship already having some huge games this season, including a 27 point performance at Canisius, as well as a 24 point, six steal effort against Fairleigh Dickinson on December 22. NOTABLE ALUMNI Tonya Grant ’90 has one of the most decorated careers in Peacock history. She was named to the All-MAAC Second Team in 1986–87, as well as 1987–88. She was named to the All-MAAC First team in both 1988–89 and 1989–90, as well as being named MAAC Player of the Year in 1989–90. A three-time MAAC Tournament Champion, Grant is the all-time leading scorer in Peacock history, scoring 2020 points in her career. During the 1989–90 campaign, Grant averaged 25.6 points per game, the highest average in Peacock history. She also holds the record for most points in a game, scoring 44 in a win over Loyola (MD) on December 9, 1989.

PLAYER TO WATCH KC Ndefo, the two-time defending MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, has been dominant in his time in Jersey City. One of the best shot blockers in the country, Ndefo owns the program record for career and single season blocked shots and ranks inside the top-5 in the NCAA among active players in career blocks. In 2019–20, Ndefo won both the MAAC Defensive Player and Sixth Player of Year awards, becoming just the third player in MAAC history to win two major awards in the same season. The 2021–22 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year has led the Peacocks in each of the last two seasons in points, steals and blocked shots. NOTABLE ALUMNI Keydren Clark, a four-time All-MAAC selection, is one of the best players in the history of the MAAC, being named the 2005–06 MAAC Player of the Year and was selected as the MAAC Long Distance Shooter of the Year in 2003–04 and 2002–03 as well as the MAAC Rookie of the Year his freshman season. He is currently one of just 10 Division I student-athletes in NCAA history to reach 3,000 career points. Clark is the Saint Peter’s men’s basketball all-time leader in scoring, field goals made, field goals attempted, scoring average, 3-pointers made, 3-pointers attempted, free throws made, free throws attempted, free throw percentage, steals and steals per game. Clark also won the Haggerty Award in 2004–05 as the All-New York Metropolitan Player of the Year and was selected to the Saint Peter’s Hall of Fame in 2011.

HEAD COACH MARC MITCHELL Marc Mitchell enters his fourth year of leading the Peacocks, following the team’s most successful campaign since 2002. He was named the 2021 “The Rock” MAAC Co-Coach of the Year, the first Peacock coach to claim the award since 1999, after leading the Peacocks to the three-seed in the 2021 MAAC Tournament, and reaching the championship game for the first time since 2002. Under coach Mitchell’s leadership, current graduate student Kendrea Williams earned a selection to the 2020–21 All-MAAC Third Team and a 2021–22 Preseason All-MAAC Second Team Selection. During her 2020–21 campaign, Williams finished the season as one of the MAAC’s elite three-point shooters, finishing with 52 deep shots made during the season, while also shooting 36% from downtown. Prior to joining the Peacocks, Mitchell enjoyed a highly successful career at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham, where he led the Devils for nine seasons.

HEAD COACH SHAHEEN HOLLOWAY

In his fourth season as the head coach of the Saint Peter’s basketball program, Shaheen Holloway has returned the Peacocks back into title contenders. The 2019–20 The Rock MAAC Coach of the Year, Holloway has led SPU to the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament in each of the past two seasons. In 2020–21, Holloway led the Peacocks to the #3 overall seed in the MAAC Tournament, defeating nine of the other 10 teams in the league throughout the season. Holloway produced a 18-12 overall record and a 14-6 MAAC record in 2019–20 to tie the program record for conference victories in a single season. Holloway has coached a total of five All-MAAC selections in his first three seasons, including helping KC Ndefo become the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Holloway’s 2019–20 squad additionally took home a MAAC record four major awards, a program record of four Peacocks were selected to five All-MAAC teams and a MAAC record three freshmen to the All-Rookie Team.
