Commissioner’s Cup Monmouth University and Siena College have won the 2020–21 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Commissioner’s Cups. Monmouth claimed the Overall Commissioner’s Cup and the men’s title, while Siena captured the women’s title for their first-ever Commissioner’s Cup. “Honoring successful student-athletes, coaches and their schools is one of the great benefits of serving as commissioner of a conference,” said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “The achievements of the Monmouth University and Siena College student- athletes are particularly noteworthy given the pandemic environment these athletes trained and competed within during a compressed, largely spring semester season, of MAAC competition. Their coaches also should be singled out for adapting to continually changing circumstances of competition pauses, rescheduling of contests, and managing athlete’s stress caused by the impact of the COVID-19 virus on their health and academics. Congratulations to all the competitors and much success in future years as intercollegiate athletics regroups and prepares for the coming fall season.” The MAAC Commissioner’s Cup is awarded annually as a symbol of overall excellence in athletics in the 23 championships conducted within the MAAC. Only the scores from Men’s & Women’s Basketball, plus the top six men’s and top six women’s scores are usually used to determine an institution’s total points. Due to the truncated seasons and fall sports being moved to the spring by the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancelation of Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, the 2020–21 Commissioner’s Cup points were calculated based on the best scores in four championships plus Men’s and Women’s Basketball. Monmouth’s Overall and Men’s Commissioner’s Cup title marks their 12 th and 13 th Commissioner’s Cup in school history. All of the Hawks’ titles have come since the 2013–14 season. This marks the sixth Overall Commissioner’s Cup the Hawks have secured in the last seven years and is their fifth men’s title, their first since 2016–17. This year Monmouth claimed the Men’s Soccer Championship,

Men’s Tennis Championship, and Regular Season Title, their seventh consecutive Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship, the Women’s Softball Regular Season Title, and the Men’s Lacrosse Championship as well as a share of the Regular Season Championship in both Men’s Lacrosse and Men’s Basketball. “We are all proud to win our sixth overall and fifth men’s MAAC Commissioner’s Cup,” Monmouth University Vice President/Director of Athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil said. “This is always a goal of our athletics department and it is a direct result of the amazing talent, perseverance, and competitiveness of our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff across the board. We will celebrate this incredible accomplishment and I am confident we will continue to raise the bar and strive for excellence in the future.” For the first time in school history, Siena has won a Commissioner’s Cup as they take home the women’s title this year. This season in women’s sports, the Saints captured their second tennis MAAC Championship and their third soccer championship while bringing home the regular season title in soccer as well. “This is a wonderful accomplishment for our athletic department, and a testament to our women’s teams who all did an outstanding job performing both athletically and academically while navigating a pandemic,” said Siena College Vice President and Director of Athletics John D’Argenio. “They all appreciated the opportunity in front of them to compete during this unique school year, and their steadfast commitment to following the protocols allowed our women’s teams to bring home a pair of MAAC Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, with two other teams adding second-place finishes, all of which contributed to us earning our first-ever MAAC Women’s Commissioner’s Cup.” For the full 2020–21 Commissioner’s Cup standings and Commissioner’s Cup history, see below.
