TIME OUT FOR BLACK LIVES

The MAAC entered their second year of the United for Justice campaign. As part of the campaign, the MAAC continued to build its virtual reading program – Time Out for Black Lives – which focuses on Black history and culture. The program benefits elementary and middle school children and features MAAC coaches and student-athletes reading story books for children with a positive message about Black culture, justice for all, and education. The readings are highlighted on an interactive website timeoutforblacklives.com. Posted videos feature short biographies on each coach or student-athlete as well as “Let’s Talk About It” resource guides to help parents and teachers start thought provoking discussions with the children viewing the videos. It’s the conference’s dream that, with a ball and a moving story, we can celebrate the greatness of Black culture in a positive way. To learn more and see videos of other coaches and student athletes from around the league, visit timeoutforblacklives.com. The MAAC Student Athlete Social Justice Committee recently launched a video and graphic campaign involving social justice themes to highlight diversity and influence change by telling stories and shining light on communities who have not been represented. Videos will be posted throughout the year on the MAAC SAAC Twitter page, @MAAC_SAAC.
