PLAYER TO WATCH 2020 MAAC Defensive and Sixth Player of the Year, KC Ndefo, continued his stellar career in a Saint Peter’s uniform during his junior campaign in 2020–21. Following the 2019–20 season, the All-MAAC selectee led the Peacocks in scoring, rebounding, blocks, and steals. Ndefo picked right back up where he left off this season, anchoring the squad in points, blocks and steals for the bulk of the season. His most notable contribution to the program comes as a rim protector, where the forward led the entire nation in blocked shots and blocks per game. Ndefo also tied the program single-game record in blocks, rejecting seven shots at Siena on Jan. 23. He is on pace to break all of Saint Peter’s single-season blocked shots records in 2020–21, while also being on pace to become the program’s all-time leader in career blocks. NOTABLE ALUMNI Bob Hurley Sr. is a 1971 graduate of Saint Peter’s and a 2014 Saint Peter’s Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee. Born and raised in the Greenville section of Jersey City, Hurley was the boys’ basketball head coach at Saint Anthony’s since 1972 until the school closed down in 2017. He led the Friars to four national championships and 27 New Jersey State titles as a head coach. Hurley was Named the USA Today National Coach of the Year three times. He has produced over 150 players that have received a Division I full scholarship and he coached five first round NBA draft picks. Hurley is one of just a few high school coaches to be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
HEAD COACH SHAHEEN HOLLOWAY In just three seasons at the helm of the Saint Peter’s men’s basketball program, Shaheen Holloway has returned the Peacocks back to title contenders. Named 2020 The Rock MAAC Coach of the Year, Holloway became the third head coach from Saint Peter’s to win the conference’s top award after guiding the Peacocks to an 18-12 overall record and 14-6 MAAC mark a season ago. Under his leadership, the team made the biggest NET Rankings improvement in the MAAC (14th nationally) from 2018–19 to 2019–20. The 14 league wins under Holloway tied the program record for conference victories in a season and the team’s nine MAAC home wins were the most ever by the program. His team also won 11 games at home in 2019–20, the most in almost 30 years. Holloway’s squad additionally took home a MAAC record four major awards, a program record of four Peacocks were selected to five All-MAAC teams, a MAAC record three freshmen to the All-Rookie Team, and a league-record five individual freshmen earned MAAC Rookie of the Week awards to culminate the 2019–20 season.
