TIME OUT FOR BLACK LIVES

The MAAC and the MAAC student-athlete advisory committee launched a multi-year united for justice campaign. As part of the campaign, the maac launched a virtual reading program – time out for black lives – which focuses on black history. The program benefits elementary and middle school children and features MAAC coaches and student- athletes contributing their time and resources to read story books for children with a positive message about black culture, justice for all, and education. The readings are highlighted on an interactice website timeoutforblacklives.com. Posted videos feature short biographies on each coach or student-athlete as well as “let’s talk about it” resource guides to help parents and teachers start thought provoking discussions with the children viewing the videos. It’s the conference’s dream that, with a ball and a moving story, we can celebrate the greatness of black culture in a positive way.
